World Appreciation Day
Hi Everyone, I am new here and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Dawn and pure inspiration struck me about 6 weeks ago when the idea of a World Appreciation Day came to me in the night. I am trying to reach as many people as possible around the Earth to join me and many others on 14 February, 2010.

All you need do is choose to devote 5 minutes of your day on 14 February, 2010 to basking in feelings of appreciation. To find out more or let us know you plan to participate, please check out: http://fiveminutexperiment.wordpress.com/join-us/

Many thanks and blessings!

LOVE PRACTICALLY

IF THIS SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING YOU'D BE INTERESTED IN, PLEASE COME ALONG AND VISIT! Even if you're not into writing letters, I've found it a really good exercise which has forced me to look for the positives in everyone I already know and in those I meet each day. It's a Ning community so a format you're already familiar with!

‘Be the change you wish to see in the world’

I am writing love letters to the world. Will you join me?

The way I see it, simply by being born, each and every one of us changes the world just a little. And from that time on ~ with every decision we make; each action we take ~ we continue to change it. Whether that change is for better or worse is up to us. We are either giving to or drawing from. Simple as that.

Maybe it's a sudden recognition of my own mortality but, as I headed towards 40, more and more I was drawn to living my life with purpose. Consciousness. Not parked in neutral but deeply aware that it is not political punch or mega bucks that stand the best chance of making this place better, but in each individual finding peace; finding happy; finding meaning. Being of service.

This is a world which has lost its way ... its people and its environment creaking under the strain. Restoration seems too far away, too late. Too BIG. If I tell you that it starts with you, will you run with it? If I tell you that it's as simple as returning to love, will you find the wings to fly?

Let's start with practical possibilities. The everyday. And let us also start with leaving our judgements and our rules at the door. Your journey is yours as mine is mine and for there to be real benefit, there must be respect and acceptance.

Let's start with lifting the happy around here. Let's start with saying something nice and meaning it.

Like I said, I've been writing letters to people who've touched my life in some way. Some are very close and have been around me forever; some are new and may go as quickly as they've come; some I've never met but have read about them, or seen them on television, or who live down the road and have the prettiest sweetpeas in the street. Some of the letters are deep and meaningful; some are short, sweet and funny. Some are not words at all, but a photo of a happy time. But all with the intention of spreading a little warmth. People will not remember what you say or what you do, but they will always remember how you made them feel.

Please make yourself at home. Share photos from around the world of those you love; music and things that make you smile; post your own simple and practical ideas to lift the energy of the world; join in.

The Invitation - Oriah Mountain Dreamer
It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it, or fade it, or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own; if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day. And if you can source your own life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, 'Yes.'

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

Catriana,
What is intelligence? We know so well what it isn't. Thanks for stimulating our heart minds.

“Prophets, mystics, poets, scientific discoverers are people whose lives
are dominated by vision. They are essentially solitary men and women…
whose thoughts and emotions are not subject to the dominion of the herd.”

(A New Earth, Eckhart Tolle)

"If in the midst of negativity you are able to realise_ At this moment I am creating suffering for myself _ then it will be enough to raise you above the limitiations of conditioned egoic states and reactions. It will open up infinite possiblitities which will come to you when there is awareness - other vastly more intelligent ways of dealing with any situation. You will be free to let go of your unhappiness the moment you recognise it as unintelligent...

Negativitiy is not intelligent. It is always of the ego. The ego may be clever but it is not intelligent. Cleverness pursues its own little aims. Intelligence sees the larger whole in which all things are connected. Cleverness is motivated be self- interest and is extremely short-sighted. Most politicians and business people are clever. Very few are intelligent. Whatever is attained thorugh cleverness is short-lived and always turns out to be eventually self-defeating. Cleverness divides. Intelligence includes" (A New Earth, Eckhart Tolle)
